Apart from the kludges in the "Win32" path to emulate the alarm() call, 
there are no "threads" in netperf/netserver. (well "netperf2" that is) 
That is to say netperf/netserver are not threaded applications.  Each 
new connection to a netserver will cause netserver to spawn a new 
process, not simply a new thread.
