[netperf-talk] negative CPU utilization

Attached is an updated patch.  This includes the funky wrapping we
discussed before, and some casts to placate the version of gcc that
comes with Ubuntu 9.04.

I've tested on SMP and UP hosts, and as far back as 2.4.25.
