Except when your platform isn't recognized (solaris 11), or
when the build barfs because the auto-crud passes bad args
to a build tool (macosx)...

Can you tell me what the last SVN version was before the
auto-ification?  If I have time (a big if), maybe I'll take a crack at
a simpler auto-ification along the lines we discussed in private email
last week.
